JOB OVERVIEW
The Fire Prevention and Emergency Officer will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and monitoring fire prevention and emergency management systems across the mine. The role focuses on fire risk mitigation, emergency preparedness, compliance with legislation, training, and continuous improvement of fire safety performance.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Establishing and leading fire and emergency management systems and producing performance improvement reports aligned to Khoemacau Mine fire safety objectives
- Monitoring key fire performance indicators including equipment maintenance, readiness inspections, fire simulations, training schedules, and compliance audits
- Assisting line management to identify, assess, and report fire risks using recognised risk management tools such as inspections, checklists, system reviews, and operational data analysis
- Developing and implementing area-specific annual fire training plans in collaboration with line management
- Implementing structured engagement plans with internal and external stakeholders
- Providing technical guidance on fire prevention and emergency response matters to management, contractors, and project teams
- Conducting fire awareness training for mine employees, contractors, stakeholders, and surrounding communities
- Coordinating weekly emergency response drills and supporting the development of mine emergency response teams
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Fire Safety Management or an equivalent qualification
- Minimum of three (3) years post-qualification experience in fire prevention, fire monitoring, fire risk assessments, or emergency management
- Proven experience in a mining or heavy industrial environment
- Registration with a recognised professional fire safety or emergency management body
- Strong working knowledge of modern firefighting methods and fire prevention principles
