JOB OVERVIEW
The Semi-Skilled Electrician will assist qualified electricians in the installation, inspection, maintenance, and testing of electrical equipment and systems. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with safety procedures, statutory regulations, and planned maintenance schedules to support continuous plant availability and safe operations.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Obtaining work orders from Electricians, Technicians, and the E&I Coordinator and securing authorization to work on isolated equipment in line with approved lock-out procedures
- Inspecting electrical equipment and switchgear under the direct supervision of qualified electricians using visual checks and specialized testing equipment
- Removing electrical equipment from site to maintenance workshops for refurbishment, decommissioning, or disposal in accordance with planned maintenance schedules
- Conducting monthly inspections of portable electrical equipment and related assets under the instruction of electricians
- Performing pre-installation electrical tests on buildings and field equipment before handover to electricians for authorization
- Inspecting electrical installations and wiring to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and IEE regulations
- Supporting routine, planned, and corrective maintenance activities to maintain plant reliability and safety
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Trade Test B, Level 1 Certificate, or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Electronic Engineering
- Minimum of two (2) years hands-on experience in a heavy power or industrial electrical environment
- Basic working knowledge of electrical power systems, including transformers, MCCs, and VSDs
- Exposure to mine processing plants will be an added advantage
- Experience working around boreholes, water treatment plants, and sewage treatment facilities will be an added advantage
