Job Overview

The Department of Animal Production invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Temporary Field Assistant II based at Lobu Field Station. The successful candidates will support livestock and farm operations, assisting with day-to-day animal husbandry and field activities to ensure effective agricultural service delivery.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) certificate
  • Applicants with certificates above Diploma level are not eligible
  • Must be physically fit and able to perform manual farm duties

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Herding livestock on the farm
  • Marking livestock
  • Conducting regular fence patrols
  • Shearing sheep
  • Slaughtering livestock (lambs and piglets)
  • Performing livestock management practices such as:
    • Monitoring animal health
    • Foot trimming
    • Dipping and routine animal care
  • Cleaning kraals and animal troughs
  • Monitoring water conditions
  • Performing any other related duties as assigned to meet operational needs

Requirements

  • No criminal record
  • Conversant with livestock herding and animal husbandry practices
  • Ability to ride a horse daily
  • Ability to read and write both Setswana and English
